Why it’s so hard to edit our own work

I’ve often been amazed at the errors in my own writing that I didn’t immediately spot and correct. If I can spot other people’s mistakes so easily, why am I blind to my own? Why have I had to invent ways to trick my eyes and brain into treating what I have written as something new and different?

This article by Nick Stockton on wired.com explains very clearly what I’ve previously only thought in a very fuzzy way is actually going on.
